Our courses

Our courses provide an outstanding and flexible learning experience. We offer extended degrees with a foundation year, pathways into degree study, flexible undergraduate courses for part-time and mature learners, and apprenticeships.

Foundation Years

These courses are designed for applicants whose backgrounds mean they are less likely to attend university (also known as widening participation backgrounds) and who do not currently meet admissions criteria for direct entry to a degree. This means we consider additional factors about your background when you apply.

On the course, you benefit from a foundation year which provides intensive support to enable your development of academic skills and knowledge. On successful completion of your foundation year, you will progress to your chosen degree course.

Part-time foundation year

Interdisciplinary Studies with Preparation for Higher Education BA Foundation Year

This extended course is for mature students, who haven’t normally studied at this level previously, looking to return to study and wishing to progress to a range of degrees (both full and part-time) in the social sciences, arts or healthcare.

Preparation for Higher Education (PHE) is a one-year part-time foundation year that provides a supportive environment to help you prepare for the transition to Level 1 university study and gain the academic knowledge and study skills you’ll need to succeed.

Professional Studies is a degree designed for mature students with real life experience in mind. Taught by the University’s Lifelong Learning Centre (LLC), you’ll gain a qualification grounded in the skills that employers value in professional roles today.

This unique and interdisciplinary course is particularly relevant if you can bring work experience to your studies. You’ll learn about key contemporary issues such as globalisation, diversity, health, creativity, leadership and technology.

Higher and degree apprenticeships

Our apprenticeships are created in partnership with employers, to make sure that apprentices develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed for their chosen career.

Apprentices gain a degree from the University of Leeds – a combined academic and vocational qualification – while continuing to work.
