On 28th January more than 55 partners from Leeds and West Yorkshire came together to celebrate progress, share insights and shape the future of our shared health and care careers platform – Career Compass. The attached infographic summarises our conversations and emerging priorities from the day, below is an outline of our discussions.

Reflecting on Career Compass’s impact
In its first year, Career Compass has:
- Reached over 1,600 people across schools, employers and job seekers
- Enabled partners to better engage people in career exploration activities. We heard from Genevieve Martin at Leeds City College, who is using Career Compass to support students find, explore and understand their future career paths.
- Started to be embedded in partners approaches, including schools outreach work, career support, recruitment through the Leeds Talent Hub, and training for careers advisors and employment coaches.
Partners shared examples of Career Compass sparking more meaningful career conversations, widening understanding of the breadth of roles in health and care, and helping people take their next step with confidence.
Launching Your Health, Your Career
The event also marked the launch of our new health and work tool, Your Health, Your Career
Partners explore how Your Health, Your Career can:
- Support open, strengths-based conversations about work, health and the type of environments people may thrive in
- Give individuals space to reflect and learn more about their health and career options
- Help managers, careers advisors and health professionals to support people to find their best fit role, retaining them in the health and care system
Embedding tools for impact
Across the morning, partners identified opportunities to grow the impact of both Career Compass and Your Health, Your Career, by:
- Developing resources for managers, coaches, careers advisors, teachers and supporters, enabling them to confidently use the tools in career conversations, continued professional development, teaching, pre-employment programmes and appraisals.
- Working together to grow information, real-life stories and representation of the health and care system on Career Compass, including focusing on hidden careers, non-clinical roles, lateral moves and flexible pathways.
- Sharing insight and learning, by using data, feedback and experience from both tools to inform policy, shape practice and shift culture.
- Embedding Career Compass and Your Health, Your Career where career conversations and support already takes places, including in our:
- Schools, colleges, and universities
- Pre-employment and supported employment programmes
- GP practices
- Staff networks
- HR, occupational health and recruitment processes
- Careers teams and employment support services
This event reinforced the strength of our partnerships across West Yorkshire and the shared commitment to ensure people can access, explore and thrive in meaningful health and care careers.
