One Workforce Health Equity Development Programme

Sponsored by Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust, partners in the city are working with the Leeds Health and Care Academy to develop a Health Equity Development programme for the health and social care workforce in Leeds.

The vision of the programme is to:

‘To create a confident, skilled, and empowered health and social care workforce in Leeds providing quality care that is fair for all. The programme will proactively address health inequalities by embedding equitable, inclusive, and accessible care into everyday practice’

The programme is in its early stages of development and we are engaging with a range of people from across the health and care sector in Leeds to develop a variety of training that will be accessed by clinical and support roles. One opportunity for the programme is to create a more bespoke, intensive development offer to support people tackle specific health equity issues which have been identified in services, teams or pathways. We are looking for feedback from stakeholders on which teams, services or pathways are a priority in terms of inequalities issues that would most benefit from more intensive support. Please provide any suggestions to Be Baxter-Heyes (Programme Development Lead) by 18th July 2025 on be.baxter-heyes@nhs.net

The programme is currently in the planning and codesign phase, with a steering group recently established but if you do require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact Paul Sullivan at the Leeds Health and Care Academy, paul.sullivan10@nhs.net.

Note: Health inequalities are the systematic, unfair and avoidable difference in health across the population and between different groups within society. They are driven by social determinants and are reflected in disparities in access, treatment, outcomes, and workforce experiences within the health and care system.
