Learning Portal

A single online platform providing shared learning and development opportunities for the Leeds health and care workforce.

Purpose

The Learning Portal exists to provide accessible, high-quality learning opportunities that strengthen skills, confidence, and collaboration across the Leeds health and care system. It is designed to support staff at all levels, enabling them to develop professionally while contributing to better outcomes for people and communities in Leeds.

Strategic Drivers

The platform directly aligns with the ambitions of the Healthy Leeds Plan by:

  • Building a skilled and adaptable workforce able to respond to changing health and care needs.
  • Narrowing inequalities in access to training and professional development across different sectors and roles.
  • Strengthening system leadership and collaboration through shared learning experiences.
  • Supporting retention, workforce wellbeing, and sustainable workforce supply across health and care.

Approach

The Learning Portal takes an innovative system-wide approach, enabling people from different organisations, sectors, and professional backgrounds to learn together. By designing and curating shared learning opportunities, it helps break down organisational boundaries, foster cross-sector relationships, and strengthen the collective #TeamLeeds ethos.

Focus

Leeds health and care workforce to access relevant training and development that supports person centred care and greater integration/neighbourhood health.

Academy Role

The Academy acts as the driving force behind the portal, curating a wide range of opportunities that are relevant, inclusive, and accessible. It ensures that content reflects system priorities, addresses the needs of different workforce groups, and promotes equity of access across organisations, including those in the Third Sector. The Academy also provides leadership in embedding a culture of lifelong learning across the Leeds health and care system.

Expected Impact

  • For individuals: improved access to professional development, enabling career progression, confidence, and capability.
  • For organisations: stronger retention, more engaged staff, and increased system resilience.
  • For the system: deeper collaboration across organisational boundaries, reduced duplication of effort, and a workforce better aligned to the needs of the population.
  • For communities: a healthier, fairer Leeds where people receive care and support from a confident, skilled, and connected workforce.
