Private, Independent & Voluntary Organisations (PIVOs) Placement Resources

Welcome to our dedicated webpage designed specifically for providers, learners, assessors and supervisors in the world of Private, Independent and Voluntary Organisational (PIVO) clinical placements.

We understand that navigating the landscape of clinical placements can be a complex journey and we are here to make it as seamless and informative as possible.

We understand the importance of providing real life experiences of PIVO placements so please take a moment to read the case studies at the bottom of this page, to hear more from a PIVO placement provider, a current student who has undertaken PIVO placements and a former student now working in the PIVO sector.

Upcoming events

Alongside the guidance here, we bring to your attention the following events open to ALL healthcare students across West Yorkshire:

West Yorkshire Learner Passport

West Yorkshire ICB are pleased to announce the launch of the West Yorkshire Learner Passport. This learner-owned document was developed in response to feedback from learners and the staff who support them across the region. Shaped by extensive engagement with universities, educators, and learners, the Passport empowers individuals to share information about themselves. It provides a consistent approach that promotes inclusion and helps placement teams create supportive, responsive environments where all learners can thrive.

The Learner Passport and Support Guidance documents can be accessed here – West Yorkshire ICB Placement Strategy : West Yorkshire Health & Care Partnership

West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership Environments and Placements Webpage

About PIVO’S
When we refer to Private, Independent and Voluntary Organisations, we are generally referring to all those organisations that are not large NHS providers. In Leeds, the large NHS providers are Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (LTHT), Leeds Community Healthcare Trust (LCH) and Leeds and York Partnership Foundation Trust (LYPFT).

We’ve built this webpage to serve as a comprehensive resource for everyone involved in clinical placements outside of these large NHS providers to reflect the different opportunities available in this diverse sector (which is currently circa 50 per cent of the Leeds workforce, City Workforce Profile 2024: understanding Team Leeds – Leeds Health and Care Academy).

Whether you’re a provider seeking to place learners, a learner looking for enriching learning opportunities or an assessor/supervisor facilitating and supporting the process, you’ll find valuable content tailored to your needs.

Our webpage is packed with useful resources designed to assist you in all stages of the placement process; From guides on best practices to templates and checklists, we aim to equip you with the tools necessary for a successful placement experience. This webpage has been co-designed with providers, learners and educational institutions but we are always looking at opportunities to improve the access to resources so if you do have any comments or can share any other useful documents please do not hesitate to contact us on: LCHA@nhs.net.

A poster with QR code directing people to the webpage is below is useful to download, print and share.
